Questions and Answers about Adoption

This page of the site addresses some of the most frequently asked questions.

Types of adoption

There are many different kinds of child adoption. The primary distinctions are between private or agency child adoption, open or closed child adoption, and domestic or international child adoption.

Requirements

Many adoption agencies will not place children with single persons or couples who have not been married for several years, adopting parents over a certain age limit, those of a specific sexual orientation, those who already have children, with couples who cannot prove infertility, live in apartments, or practice a particular religion. This site will help you with restriction issues.

Waiting Period

The total waiting period to adopt a child depends upon many factors.  This page of the site will help you understand the issues involved.

Costs

The total expense for a child adoption depends on such factors as the child's age, nationality/ethnicity, whether the child has special needs, the specific child adoption agency you work with, how long you are willing to wait, what complications arise, and in an international child adoption, what country you adopt from.
